allow lots of light shine through The walnut handrail creates a sense of warmth
The brief for this architect designed home in Sandringham, Melbourne, was to compliment the generous living spaces and maximise natural light.
The concept was to combine an open timber stair with glass balustrade, to allow as much light into the stairwell as possible. The client’s wanted to retain a sense of warmth, so a combination of timbers were used to support the glazing, as opposed to steel.
An open stair increases transparency, and gives a greater sense of space when viewing the house from the front door and kitchen areas.
